Lunaris 2023: GSM
750mL. 13% ALC/VOL. Approximately 7.7 Standard drinks. Vegan. Contains minimal sulphites.
LUNARIS; Of the moon
Our ‘Best Red of season’. A classic Rhone blend, taking its fame from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, now a staple of the South Australian wine scene. We wanted to divert the scope to a medium bodied and savoury style, reflecting the history and character of this harmonic blend.
We enlisted our friends in the Pyrenees for this one, carefully selecting the most balanced vines and intense fruit from their hilltop blocks. Combining 20% submerged whole bunch fermentation in open fermenters, and varying degrees of extended maceration per varietal to refine each component.
We kept the varietals separate in oak for 6 months, allowing us to give the Syrah and Mourvèdre some air to open up, and keeping the Grenache on lees for texture. After deciding on component percentages, we blended this and returned to oak for another 8 months.
Final Blend
45% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre; 25% new French oak.
Aromatics
Dried cherries, raspberry, toasted oak, cocoa.
Palate
Savoury, orange rind, cranberry, striking tannin and a lingering finish.
